Growing Tips for Golden Crookneck Squash Seeds
Start your seeds indoors about 3-4 weeks before the last frost date. Use a seed starting mix and keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. Once the seedlings are strong enough, transplant them to your garden or containers. These squash need plenty of sunlight, so choose a spot that gets at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight each day. Keep the soil consistently moist, but avoid overwatering. Squash prefer well-drained soil. Harvest the squash when they are young and tender, typically around 6-8 inches in length. You can use them immediately or store them for later use.

For the Seed is a small seed company that is passionate about growing quality produce for both seed and for superior vegetables for most Western Canadian climates. Whatever we have not grown, or grown enough of ourselves, we carefully source reputable seed to add to our curated collection of garden seed we make available for sale.
Something that we are even more passionate about is getting seeds into the hands of gardeners who are interested in growing extra produce for their friends, family and local foodbanks. Times are changing and food security is a growing concern amongst almost all demographics.
We invite all gardeners with a heart for their neighbors to sow extra seeds, rows, or gardens to help those who may not have access, ability or means to garden themselves. This could mean you're sowing extra for a senior you know down the street, a friend who lives in an apartment, someone that you know with a disability that cannot grow a garden for themselves, as well as your local food bank or pantry to help stock their shelves with nutrient dense options for their customers. Every little bit helps, and we are here to help you in our mission to keep our neighbors and communities fed.
That is why, with every purchase, you will have the option to have an additional package(s) of seeds that compliment your selections added to your order - for free. Or, if you aren't able or interested in becoming a For the Seed community gardener, you can choose to donate your packs to our Community Fund. We will in turn donate those packs of seeds to various community gardens in the Capital Region of Alberta.
It takes a village, and as an avid gardener, I know how much I love blessings others with the fruits of our labour.
If you are part of a community program that hosts a community garden or like project, please reach out to be added to our Community Fund list. We try and spread our seeds out far and wide.
We are so excited to see and hear the stories of our gardeners giftings this season. Let's make this happen!
